Nuneaton – 8 June 2026 - As part of Diabetes Week (8–14 June 2026), BHR Biosynex UK is proud to support a community screening initiative for diabetes led by PTS Diagnostics and delivered in partnership with Hollowood Chemists, helping improve awareness and early identification of people who may be at risk of type 2 diabetes across the North West of England.
Selected Hollowood Chemists pharmacies will be offering HbA1c screening checks throughout Diabetes Week using the A1CNow+ Professional system from PTS Diagnostics.
BHR Biosynex UK is the exclusive distributor of A1CNow+ Professional in the UK and Ireland and is supporting the campaign as part of its commitment to improving access to point-of-care diabetes screening solutions.
The HbA1c screening check is a simple finger-prick test which measures average blood glucose levels over the previous two to three months. The test is intended as a screening tool only and is not a formal diagnosis of diabetes. Results may indicate whether someone has raised average blood glucose levels and may be at risk of diabetes, and therefore may require further clinical assessment.
The service is available to adults aged 18 years and over, subject to pharmacist assessment and test suitability. Individuals with abnormal screening results will be advised to contact their GP or other appropriate healthcare professional for further assessment and follow-up.
According to Diabetes UK*, almost 6 million people in the UK are living with diabetes, including around 1.3 million people who may be living with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. A further 6.9 million people are estimated to be at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, highlighting the importance of early screening and intervention.
Community pharmacy plays an increasingly important role in preventative healthcare and accessible screening services, helping patients take positive action earlier through further medical advice or lifestyle changes where appropriate.
People experiencing symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, drowsiness, or who are feeling acutely unwell should seek urgent medical advice and should not rely on screening alone.
Jainil Patel, Deputy Superintendent and Head of Professional Services at Hollowood Chemists, said:
"Diabetes Week is an important opportunity to encourage people to think about their health and understand their risk of type 2 diabetes. Many people can be living with raised blood glucose levels without realising it, which is why simple screening checks like this can make such a difference."
Adam Martin, UK & Ireland Country Manager for BHR Biosynex UK, added:
"We are delighted to support this important initiative and would like to thank PTS Diagnostics for leading and championing this campaign in the UK. As the exclusive distributor of A1CNow+ Professional in the UK and Ireland, we are proud to work alongside PTS Diagnostics and Hollowood Chemists to help improve access to diabetes screening and support earlier intervention where appropriate."
